Happy 2010!

I've accomplished a lot so far this year. No Joke. I've finished the third draft of Getting Ivan. I've written another screenplay, still on it's first draft. My 5th screenplay is already fully outlined in an 18 page treatment. This brings my Screenplay count to 4 completed!

1 -Higher Learning
2 -Sleeping Dogs
3 -Getting Ivan
4 -The Depths (Working Title)

I've also gotten a chance to script out several shorts for the project below.

I'm hard at work with Jamie Overstreet on the early stages of our online TV network. I can only hope that all stays on track and the site can launch during the first spring thaw. The network will be titled ShortShorts(z). All of the content will be generated by Cleveland media artists. We will show everything including, but not limited to: Short Films, Review Shows, Vlogs, Comedy Skits, Music Videos, etc.

Below are the Motion Graphics I've created for:

Bibliomania Or: How I Learned How to Stop Caring and Love the Books: This show will consist of a monthly episode of myself sharing the books I've bought vs. the ones I've read. It's basically going to be a video version of Nick Horby's Polysyllabic Spree.

Vulgar Review: Movie reviews done by Kreg Vetovitz & Ralph Miller. There will be no holding back. Honestly I hope for nothing but the most gratuitously vulgar movie reviews ever seen by man!

Other shows already in the works are: Feminatrix, Jon and Jamie Hate Things, Comic Book Review, ShortShort Inerviews, and more.

There's going to be a lot more to come. I'll keep you posted.

All Sleeping Dogs make Minor Adjustments to Leather when Getting Ivan

Done. Done with the fifth draft of Sleeping Dogs. I sent it out to Lindsay Preston, who will look it over for me. I'm going to tighten it up, then out to the Agents.

I also submitted a short script titled Minor Adjustments to Massify, to be produced by Killer Films. Hopefully I'll be picked out of the 200-something scripts that have been submitted. You can read it here:

The top image is a Flyer I just completed for All Leather, a Gay-Rights band from San Diego. They were awesome when I saw them in CLE and they are lead by the legendary Justin Pearson(Locust, Holy Molar, Some Girls, Swing Kids, Crimson Curse, Bastard Noise). Listen to them!

Hey everyone. This is something I drew awhile back.

I've been majorly busy. Finished my second (and still untitled) screenplay. The good news is that it's on it's forth draft, and on Nov. 2nd I'll be having a meeting about getting an agent. Also I have a huge project brewing. It's in it's infant stages but I will be giving updates on it. More comics will be coming soon and more often.

Alabama Was Not Made For Me

Driving south has left me highly stressed and still exhausted. We drove for 26 out of 48 hours. I have never been more sure that I'm meant for the north. I've never felt so confused about a state as Tennessee. It seems like every exit has an Adult Megastore, next to a Fireworks Store, Next to a Giant Cross overlooking several large churches. So when you're done with that new blow up goat you just bought you can walk half a block to repent. Tennessee has the landscape of Virginia, and is truly stunning to see. Too bad Dollywood and Massive Religious symbols have to sully it.

In Georgia, we drove down a street that had 13 Baptist churches in less than 5 miles.

Southern hospitality is a fallacy. They're just slow and nosey. I'm in love with a south that doesn't exist. The south of Cormac McCarthy and Mark Twain, and of Faulkner. Maybe it does exist, but is tucked away, not to be ruined by outsiders like me.

Actually seeing my Dad was not as I expected. Which I should have expected. He walked past and my mom motioned that it was him. He seemed frail, beat, a failure that has given up on any notion of recovery. His right eye milky and glazed over. He looked to me like a strange southern version of Ian McKellen. Like a down home villain in a bond movie. All my emotion rose to my throat but subsided suddenly.

There is never a good reason to make reference to Star Wars. But here we go. It felt like when Darth Vader slides his mask off and we see that he's a frail old man. The the idea of him was much more threatening than he ever could be.

We didn't speak. As far as I know he didn't even look at me. It's probably better that way.

Above is the only drawing I will ever do of him.

Sadly and even Shamefully the real standout moment of the trip wasn't seeing my dad for the first time, but a book. On the way back home I devoured a good chunk of Nick Hornby's The Polysyllabic Spree. It's been a long time since I've felt such a connection to an author and his outlook. Nick Hornby along with Nicolas Sparks is one of those authors I didn't want to read because I didn't want to believe that they're as good as people say they are. Nick Hornby is as good as people say he is, and at the very least a down to earth, likable guy with good taste.

I had the best waiter of my life in northern Kentucky. His name was Herb.

As it just so happens about a week ago I started outlining a screenplay about a young man who decides to go on a road trip to meet his estranged father. In preparation for it I began reading Oedipus Rex and Brothers Karamazov. Now, in life's strange way, I have to drive to Alabama, to meet my dad for the first time. In a courtroom... I'm trying to get $10,000 in back child support. I leave tomorrow morning at 6am. Hopefully I won't explode and maybe, just maybe, I can channel it into something impacting.

P.S.:
In a less melodramatic vein: This is the worst cover art ever.

Time to spread some news. Here are two new fliers I just finished and got approved. I wholeheartedly encourage you to check both of them out. Maybe stop by and leave a comment on their pages.

Second: Anyone interested in graphic design work just drop me a message at my myspace, e-mail, w/e.

Third: I will probably have some work(comics) available at a new gallery/record store opening in Tremont named Loop. I'll post the link at the end of the post with the rest. Barring no complications it's grand opening should be in July at some point.

Fourth and Finally: I just completed my first screenplay. I'm going into the third draft. It clocks in at 90 pages. I'm also outlining two others right now. Once I feel totally confident with it I'll post it to my Massify account for all to read. Now then, Who wants to shell out about $10,000 so I can film the thing? Any takers?

Here is a comic I made in kindergarten. I still have a lot of the ones I did at that age. Including a twelve volume series named 'The Blob'. Their plots are completely indecipherable and they're poorly drawn.

I found this in good will the other day and had to buy it.

For anyone who doesn't know what this book is about. It's basically a hypothetical on if America had had a president during WWII that was sympathetic with Hitler and how that would have effected the rights of Jewish Americans.

Historically Speaking a lot of America was quite impressed, if not sympathetic to Hitler during WWII up until we went in.

The most disturbing thing about someone writing "Jewish Propaganda" is it's not propaganda, at all, at all. What is with the rise in Holocaust deniers. Why would people be so irrational as to deny something so obvious? Thousands of soldiers saw Auschwitz. It's all documented.

I can see being mad about Israel committing war crimes. That is legitimate. But for the love of god Skeptic Magazine shouldn't have to spend half a magazine reclaiming the truth of WWII.

Republican Response to Obama's Speech

I was literally speechless at the republican response to Obama's speech. Their best argument for why the government shouldn't really do anything to try and fix the economy was that people in New Orleans did fine without government help. That's it? It's not even like shooting fish in a barrel! It's something easier.

Are they even trying? I feel like they are, but when I hear their arguments I wonder if they're even legally competent to hold office.

Not only that, but I love how the best move they seem to have is to push all ethnic people in their party to the fore front. First Michael Steel (Who claimed he was going to "bring Hip-Hop to republicans". Yeah, because The Roots and Sarah Palin really have a lot in common). And now Bobby Jindal.

Then they also keep bringing up a high speed rail from Disney to Vegas. The Stim does give money to high speed rail construction (which is a good thing.) but there is nothing in the plan about one from Disney to Vegas. Bald face lie. Even if there was one, why would that be so terrible? They don't seem to get why they are now in the minority. Maybe it's the incessant lying.

I probably should have drawn this out in a big comic but this felt more appropriate.
